The Reverend Sun Myung Moon was most commonly remembered for mass-wedding ceremonies. The people involved came together for these ceremonies, even though participants had never met.
Moon claimed that God had put him in the position of cultivating a multicultural world, all while he cultivated relationships with conservative politicians in the United States.
In the mid-’80s he served 18 months in federal prison after committing tax fraud. Since the church has adopted a lower profile and focused on its business interests.
Church critics claim that the church has overestimated its following.
