Paralyzed Woman Uses Mind to Control Her Robotic Arm

A woman paralyzed from the neck down can now shake hands, feed herself or pick things up. After nine years of relatively immobility, a robotic arm — connected to her very brain — is making it all possible.

She was diagnosed with a degenerative disease that took away her mobility. But doctors implanted sensors in her brain’s motor cortex, where they feed from 200 brain cells.

Instead of having to think where to move, as with previous arms, she can simply focus on a goal and make it happen.
