Make A Laser Listener

When you speak behind glass, you cause that glass to vibrate in resonance with your voice. Using a few pieces of simple audio-visual hardware, you can make your own eavesdropping device.

Perhaps the most obscure component you need comes from Radio Shack, a photocell. But with that, a mic cable with stripped end, a laser pointer, two tripods and computer with audio recording software, you’re ready to go.

You twist the stripped wires around the ends of the photocell. And then plug in the mic. By reflecting the laser beam over glass and back onto the photocell, your audio will come through.
