I don’t know how many of you have been involved in heavy-duty sales but I have essentially been in sales most of my working life – but there were five years, during which I worked in a boiler room, rocking a headset, running 8 computer programs, including a massive program that integrated contacts, accounting, live inventory and the Internet, while dealing with 500 call-in customers per day, along with 5 other shouting salesman, jammed in the room with me. I was the only female – and I was the biggest seller, plus the producer of the daily emailed offers and the editor of the quarterly catalogs and the NY Times ads.
So, I totally *get* this piece – but if you’ve never done hardcore sales in a boiler room, you might not!
