With a credit card reader that costs less than $100 online, anybody can remotely view anybody else’s credit card number & expiration dates, due to Radio Frequency Chips (RFID) embedded within some credit cards and passports.
A seasoned pro could pull thousands of these numbers from a large crowd and instantly have the data emailed to a distant computer. In some cases, even names could be swiped.
If your credit card has a symbol similar to an “RSS Feed” icon printed anywhere on it, it may well be vulnerable to this kind of crime, if you do not have a radio shielding sleeve or wallet to protect it from this kind of scanning.
Although no crimes of this nature have yet been reported, it’s quite possible that the anonymous nature of this crime that has allowed it to elude identification as such.
