Easy Way to Check for Radiation

Take a newspaper and at the fold, cut a one-inch strip. Hold the strip in one hand. With the other, slide two fingers between two pieces of paper. Do it briskly and you get a static charge.

The surface of both sides of the paper are thus ionized. The strips will repel each other. Then, put your hand between the two strips. Both strips should cling to your finger. Remove your hand. If the strips separate, that indicates little to no radiation.

If the strips come together within half an hour, after hanging for a while, radiation is present at a dangerous level.
