Here’s the latest installment of “Activism, Brazilian-Style”: a sweet song, sung in English with the simple and plain intonations of Bossa Nova that belie the brutal
scenes depicted in this primitivist, South-Park-style animation.
The animation was actually created for the Australian mass transit company, Metro Trains Melbourne and it has sparked thousands of parodies on YouTube.
With half the population of the US, the 6th largest GDP in the world anda tax rate of 53%, Brazil certainly should show evidence of this, by having better roads, schools and
hospitals. That is the theme of this uniquely Brazilian approach to dissent; a sugary-deadpan-humorous venting about the danger and brutality of everyday life in a country woefully lacking in infrastructure.
