Eight-year-old Mason Brumley, of Springville, Calif., and his pet chicken Snowflake go way back. Snowflake met Mason four years ago after hatching in his California nursery school class. At birth, she was a tough customer, at first earning the name “Bitch Chicken†for a proclivity to fight with the rest of her family. Over the years, Mason and Snowflake spent time together regularly, growing so close that she would wake him in the morning and greet him when he returned from school by laying in his arms. But after Mason got a recent haircut, Snowflake hesitated – pausing for recognition before offering the boy her traditional salutation.
