What is sociology? It’s the study of the way in which humans are shaped by the things that they don’t see.
The way to understand those forces begins with empathy. Put yourself into the shoes of another person.
Imagine if a hundred years ago China had been the most powerful nation in the world and came to the United States in search of coal. Imagine that that had made China very rich . . . or at least its power elite.
What would the world have been like then?
