It’s incredible to think that Stanley Kubrick’s ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ was filmed in 1967/8.
But as remarkable of an achievement that this film was, I have always found “Space Odyssey” to be quite unwatchable.
Conspiracy theories swirling around Kubrick’s involvement in producing the films of NASA’s later Lunar Landings, aside – and the fact that the year 2001 came and went and as far as is officially propounded, humans did not physically travel into the far fringes of the Galaxy.
Instead, all we got was this lousy 9/11 T-Shirt.
One more beef: Commercial airplanes still fly with virtually the same technology, with the same LONG flight times as they did, back in 1968…
Putting all of that aside, I find that the incredible futuristic sets and photography of Kubrick’s groundbreaking film are made much more entertaining (and oddly humorous) for me, when cut to German synthpop musician, Peter Schilling’s 1983 hit single, “Major Tom.”
Enjoy!
I like Bowie’s version better than either of them, but I’m pretty old school: Youngbloods, Blues Project, procol harum, Love, buffalo Springfield, Jefferson anything, Jack Bruce and those 2 session guys, MITCH F’N RYDER, that group that sang about my generation (can’t seem to remember who that was); feeling moody now: thank you for having this place for idiots like me
Very good stuff lately; going to use them for recruiting for our new political party. Watcha think about Actual Justice (Party) as a homage to Paine’s Agrarian Justice plan?
Enjoyed That!
One of the worst and stupidest movies ever. It didn’t take me long to walk out on it. 2001: A Spaced Idiocy!
Me too. I like this video better!
