Kanade Sato (with grammatical corrections by AB)
September 18, 2014
This was so amazing, I just had to run it, right away!
Somehow, I get the feeling that this isn’t the last of this wildly talented young drummer that the world will be seeing and hearing!
I’ve fixed the grammar from her adorable YouTube upload, a bit, below. Her father is a drummer and she’s been around progressive jazz her whole life and is playing “Jungle” beats here, better than any drum machine that I’ve ever heard – in fact, she’s one of the best drummers I’ve ever seen live, in an artform that’s been largely taken over by digital machines!
All I can say is wow!
“Hi! My name is Kanade Sato. I am 11 years old.
“I’ve listening to the sound of drums played by my father since I was in my mother’s womb and I’m familiar with music as a part of everyday life. I always longed to play like my father and happily and began to drum at the age of three.
“I always looked forward to playing the drums with my father, side-by-side two drum sets in the park on weekends. At the age of five, when people would ask, “What do you dream to be when you grow up?”, I’d always answer: “professional drummer!”
“And now my dream is to become a “professional drummer and to play an active part in music all over the world”.
“The music “Drops” was composed for this contest by my father. And I was playing the drums as I felt they should be played. “Drops” is a piece that gathers momentum, it starts out flowing like a brick and it becomes a big river at the end – at least, that’s how I imagine it.
“Thank you! Please enjoy!!”
