In recent months, Jim Carrey has been very publicly “melting down” and making TV hosts uncomfortable as he dutifully stumps for his latest films while displaying the acute depatterning of his personality. Carrey maintains that he’s not off his rocker and that he’s achieved freedom from illusion.

Years of involvement in the Transcendental Meditation movement (TM), playing scores of different characters in Big Budget Hollywood films and being sued for Wrongful Death in the suicide of his ex-girlfriend might easily lead one to become highly dissociative and to view life from an intense level of abstraction but if his moksha is genuine and he is free from The Noble Truth of Suffering, then more power to him.

Carrey says, “I believe that I had to become a famous idea and get all the stuff that people dream about and accomplish a bunch of things that look like ‘success’ in order to give up my attachment to those things.

“You’re supposed to say, ‘We’re important,’ you’re supposed to say, ‘It’s all going to be alright,’ and you’re supposed to say, ‘Whatever you dream can come true,’ and you’re supposed to say all those things.

“I do believe in manifestation and the power of that kind of stuff but I don’t believe that any of it matters. You know, this mattering is to me, a human construct born out of a need. The same need you have to have for deities and things like that.

“I believe in an energy of God…everything is Divine…there’s…no thing that isn’t Divine. Everything is Divine and I’m that and it doesn’t matter to me what’s happening.

“I dealt with depression a few years ago and people still think, ‘You can tell he’s depressed.’ It’s not…I have sadness and joy and elation and satisfaction and gratitude beyond belief – but all of it is weather and it just spins around the planet, you know…It doesn’t settle on me enough to kill me. The happy place is realizing that you’re everything…that there’s no real you involved in the first place.

“I don’t believe in any of it…the feeling of Wholeness is a different feeling than Me-ness. They’re all characters that I played, including Jim Carrey, including Joel Barish, including any of those things, they’re all characters.

“People talk about depression all the time. The difference between depression and sadness; sadness is…whatever happened or didn’t happen for you; grief – and depression is your body saying, ‘F**k you, I don’t want to be this character anymore. I don’t want to hold up this this avatar that you’ve created in the world. It’s too much for me…’

“You should think of the word ‘depressed’ as *deep rest*, deep rest. Your body needs to be depressed. It needs deep rest from the character that you’ve been trying to play…

I think everybody should get rich and famous and get everything they dreamed so they can see that’s not the answer.   – Jim Carrey

  • I realise that almost any one on earth has an opinion over who the other one is and in special how he/she should be.
By asking this question: Who am I and how should I be, it seems to me that almost any one stands still with an open mouth, astonished, now thinking …………….what a stupid question.

  • Mr. Carey has discovered a profound truth – you are not who you think you are. The real you has been buried by layers of “norms” or “labels” that now define you. The brother is laying out some pretty heavy introspection and as a result is considered undergoing a “meltdown”. Why? Because Mr. Carey no longer cares what others think about him. Wow! We cannot have people going around peeling away the layers and layers of propaganda most of us are buried under.
Congratulations Mr. Carey, on your discovery and your willingness to try and share that discovery with the rest of us. Of course, the vast majority can never grasp the full significance of his comments because they cannot understand from their current vantage point, buried under the ton of propaganda and social engineering. Go in Peace, my friend.

    • Well said. (Agree. We just can’t have anyone peeling away the layers of propaganda–especially those who are expected to be mouthpieces for the machine. No one ever seems to ask WHY these people are paid so much for so little.)

and at a certain point I realized hey
      00:02
wait a second you know if it’s so easy
      00:04
to lose Jim Carrey who the hell is Jim
      00:06
Carrey I’m not looking backward why
      00:11
don’t we just it was more like you’re
      00:16
supposed to say you know we’re important
      00:19
you’re supposed to say it’s all going to
      00:21
be alright and you’re supposed to say
      00:24
that you know whatever you dream can
      00:27
come true and you’re supposed to say all
      00:29
those things I do believe in
      00:31
manifestation power of that kind of
      00:33
stuff but I don’t believe that any of it
      00:35
      matters
      00:36
you know this mattering is is to me a
      00:40
human construct born out of a need to
      00:43
same need is you have to have you know
      00:46
deities and things like that and I
      00:48
believe in an energy of God energy of
      00:51
you know everything is divine you know
      00:54
      there’s just not there’s no there’s no
      00:55
thing that isn’t divine everything is
      00:58
divine and I’m that and it doesn’t
      01:00
matter to me what’s happening I’m
      01:02
finding that ultimately the the freedom
      01:05
from it is is something people are kind
      01:09
of hungry for it away they’re like I
      01:11
don’t want to be me either right you
      01:13
know and I and I go well look great
      01:14
      because you never have been
      01:19
I believe that I had to become a famous
      01:24
you know idea and get all the stuff that
      01:28
people dream about and that accomplished
      01:30
a bunch of boy a bunch of things that
      01:32
      means don’t you
      01:33
you know that that look like success in
      01:36
order to give up my attachment to those
      01:39
things it’s been a part of the evolution
      01:41
of egos is to spend your first half of
      01:48
your life acquiring and adding thinking
      01:50
you can add to yourself and and it looks
      01:53
      great
      01:54
I mean it looks great when you got a
      01:55
cool car and you got a good nice clothes
      01:57
and you know and you’re and you’ve done
      02:00
something that people admire but it can
      02:04
never fulfill you you can ever be happy
      02:06
you know what I mean it’s not it’s not
      02:08
where happiness comes from and you know
      02:10
I dealt with depression you know a few
      02:12
years ago and people still think while
      02:15
he’s going through you can tell he’s
      02:17
      depressed it’s not I haven’t known
      02:20
literally none I have sadness and joy
      02:24
      and elation and satisfaction and
      02:29
gratitude beyond belief but all of it is
      02:32
wetter and it just spins around the
      02:34
planet you know it’s not it doesn’t
      02:36
settle me enough to kill me the happy
      02:38
      place is realizing that you’re
      02:40
everything you know and that there’s no
      02:42
real you involved in the first place
      02:45
      yeah it’s a so it’s a weird little
      02:48
semantic jump that you make where it
      02:51
sounds like well that’s totally fucking
      02:54
      threatening man I can’t I can’t not be
      02:56
me I built this construct and it’s just
      02:59
ideas they’re just ideas you know the
      03:02
only thing that separates you from an
      03:04
      african-american or an African Canadian
      03:07
is an idea you know and oh and the
      03:10
weather the adaption to the climate and
      03:13
whatever it is I don’t believe in any of
      03:15
it and and so the feeling of wholeness
      03:22
is is a different feeling than meanness
      03:27
they’re all characters that I played
      03:30
      including Jim Carrey including Joel
      03:34
barish including any of those things
      03:36
they’re all characters you know they Jim
      03:38
Carrey was a less intentional character
      03:41
right because I thought I was just
      03:42
      building something that people would
      03:44
like but it was a character you know so
      03:47
it’s you know I played the guy that was
      03:51
free from concerns so that people who
      03:52
watched me would be free from concern
      03:54
you know and in that at a certain point
      03:57
you go like okay well that’s great but
      04:00
you know it’s like the one thing I like
      04:02
people talk about depression all the
      04:04
      time the difference between depression
      04:05
and sadness sadness is just you know
      04:07
      from happenstance whatever happened or
      04:10
didn’t happen for you or you know
      04:13
grief or whatever it is and depression
      04:16
is your body saying fuck you I don’t
      04:20
want to be this character anymore I
      04:22
don’t want to hold up this this avatar
      04:26
that you’ve created in the world it’s
      04:28
too much for me right you know and you
      04:31
should think of the word I’ve depressed
      04:32
as deep rest deep rest your body needs
      04:37
      to be depressed
      04:38
it needs deep rest from the character
      04:40
that you’ve been trying to play you know
      04:42
the Great and Powerful oz I’m the great
      04:46
powerful oz Oh daddy you got me you know
      04:49
kind of thing and you’re just the sweaty
      04:51
guy behind the curtain Conrad it’s an
      04:54
amazing metaphor you know in that movie
      05:02
      what up with the liar
      05:05
you know what I’m gonna do about this
      05:09
it’s a pretty name that really is nice
      05:11
      it’s uh means merciful right

  • Personally, as a life long seeker of truth and personal integration, I find Mr. Carrey’s matured life observations very insightful. He is clearly growing in the direction of universal realization and the recognition of what is valuable in life and what is no more than a tale/tail chase.
Western society is a train wreck of personal confusion, egotism, insecurity and quests looking everywhere but within. Jim Carrey seems to get that and considering the potency of mountains of temptation and distractions that come with fame and money, ah-men brother!

    • Joe,

my search for truth and love went to the insight, that truth and love is something what can NOT disappear.
In a scientific way it is now possible to say that gravitational love acts by attraction, where gravitation is the source of the entire univers.
So also of my individual being as a human moment.
I found my massive soul inside of me, where all human aspects can integrate.

  • Well, he seems to perceive that all people of the entire society plays a role/character.
Now he has to find his soul of light, which is loved and is NOT admired.
When this process is ongoing, he could find his soul with grave mass,
by which he can rise up out of the grave yard of a character.

It is indeed so that matter does not matter, although the “stars” survive by matterial matter. So not by soul mass.

It is all about universal love ENERGY.
Who accept that he/she IS a human moment of time, survivng on the rope of time, can find inside him/her self the middle.
In this middle is found universal love, by trying to discover who/what I really am.

My being is a three dimensional moment by a volume of 370 cm3, containing a spiritual intelligence, intellect, intuition, instinct by thinking, sensing and feeling.

    In special:
Any one has to find the difference between sensing and feeling!!!!!

  • Still can’t tell if he walks his talk, given the fact he’s probably not given up sex and relationships- which is a game of the ego. I wouldn’t choose him as my guru but he’s fun to listen to.

    • There is an universal sexuality for the entire being, where a relationship is possible with universal love.
This is like being selfish, where the loning for being one-self is in focus.

When sexuality is used only for producing children, this I call the ego, by which all religions maintain in power and evolve thier power of control. As it is done by any government.

  • Don’t follow celebrities. I find the concept of stars as well as royalty without positive merit of any kind. Why waste time on desperate attention seekers who constantly market themselves for a profit both monetary and political? Mostly, I pity them for their obvious weakness. Then, occasionally one will awaken from the dream and begin speaking to truths. That’s usually just before Hollywood finds a way to demonize them and spit them out of the fold. Seems Carey awakened. Good for him.
