I’ve known people who’ve complained that the jet-pack, long predicted in cartoons since the early 20th century have yet to come to pass. These people may be happy to see the Flyboard, piloted with amazing skill by Franky Zapata at speeds of over 80 mph.
Rather than located on the backpack, six jet engines are located on a snowboard-type platform, creating downward thrust for lift and side thrust for steering, with the throttle controlled by hand.
For now, flights are limited to being made over water, due to risk of failure and the altitude is limited due to the same concerns.
Extended flight over land would require a safety system for engine explosions at low altitude and a parachute would be required for flights at higher altitudes – but wow – this is pretty cool!
