Dick and Rick Hoyt are a father-son team of Olympic-distance triathlon athletes who have a story that has warmed the hearts of sports fans the world over. During birth, Rick’s umbilical cord strangled him, damaging his brain and preventing him from speaking or moving his body for the rest of his life. But despite Rick’s cerebral palsy, his parents didn’t give up on him, refusing a doctor’s recommendation that an institution care for Rick.

Now in his early 70s, Dick Hoyt has been pulling and pushing his son through grueling kilometer after kilometer for three decades. Physically, Dick could have been an elite athlete in his own right. But the father says that he couldn’t race without his son, who despite cerebral palsy inspires his father to keep pushing.
