On October 13, 2015, the chairman of the Dutch Safety Board, Tjibbe Joustra held a press conference at the Gilze-Rijen air force base in the Netherlands where the flight cabin and business class section of the Boeing 777 had been assembled painstakingly from wreckage brought back from Ukraine and announced the official findings of his government that, “Flight MH-17 crashed as a result of the detonation of a warhead outside the airplane against the left-hand side of the cockpit,” saying “This warhead fits the kind of missile that is installed in the BUK surface-to-air missile system.”

The above animation was simultaneously released, to drive their argument home, to the world at large, with shades of the infamous animation produced in 1996 by the CIA to explain their tenuous argument about what took down TWA’s Flight 800, earlier that year.

The mystery of why this advanced missile did  not make a direct hit goes unexplained, in order to fit the clear evidence on the plane’s cockpit, which was riddled with 30mm gauge bullet holes, shrapnel cuts and larger holes made by small conical cannons, which are all standard ammunition on the Ukrainian Airforce’s Su-25 fleet of fighter jets.
