A translucent image of the “4th Horseman of the Apocalypse,” complete with Old Tyme ghostly sheets, fleeting unnaturally through the rioting crowds of Egypt made the rounds of the Internet last week. It originally aired during MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show,” of all places.

This looks like a primitive special effect done with cheap, old technology; mixed into the live feed from either a TV station in Egypt, where the international camera pool was covering the riots or back in New York.

There actually were local news reports of armed protestors riding into the streets on camelback, not horseback. The “Horsemen of the Apocalypse” is a scene from the Book of Revelations. Needless to say, not part of Islam’s canon.

Who would stand to benefit from this internationally broadcast video tampering? The folks over at “Left Behind”? Other folks in the Armageddon business?

This is not exactly what one would expect to see playing to the secular, liberal marketshare that MSNBC has claimed as its own for so many years! Is this a “sign” from their new parent company Comcast? Will Rachel Maddow soon go the way of Keith Olbermann?

At last glance, many YouTubers were fully buying into the image as an *actual ghost* and an *actual portent of the apocalypse*. That might have been what *someone* wanted
people to believe — but it is neither.

Who pulled this off hoax and did anyone get fired yet?
