This scene is of a German Edeka chain grocery store. 13 hidden cameras, 9 cashiers and somebody manning the lights transform the the check out aisles into a discotheque worthy of Kruder and Dorfmeister (the Austrian downtempo-dub DJs), producing an unexpected flash mob performance of the classic American Christmas song, “Jingle Bells”, using the stores many laser price scanners as instruments.

Americans may notice several extra classical filips added to this rendering of our familiar tune, not present in the original. It’s kind of like Kraftwerk crossed with Bach-meets-broccoli – with a human beatbox. How long has it been since we’ve one of those?

    It’s actually quite endearing.

Incidentally, “Jingle Bells” was written by James Lord Pierpont (1822–1893) and published under the title, “One Horse Open Sleigh” in the Fall of 1857. Even though it is now associated with Christmas, it was originally written to be sung during American Thanksgiving.
